SMS ID Register and SMS ID Sender

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is introducing a new SMS Sender ID Register as part of a broader effort to reduce scams, phishing attempts, and SMS impersonation fraud in Australia.
From 1 July 2026, the SMS ID Register will help to prevent scammers using branded text messages to impersonate well-known brands. The new register ensures that only verified sender IDs are used, working to restore consumers trust in SMS communications.
What is a SMS Sender ID?
A sender ID is the name at the top of text messages from businesses or organisations. It tells you who the message is from, for example ‘ATO’, ‘AusPost’ or ‘myGov. It is an alphanumeric string that is placed over the top of the mobile number and helps recipients to identify the sender of the SMS.
What is Changing?
From 1 July 2026, any business or organisation sending a text message must have a registered Sender ID.
Text messages received from unregistered Sender IDs may display as “Unverified” on customer devices. They will also be grouped with other unregistered senders into an “Unverified”x message thread on mobile devices.
Vonex is registered
As and when Vonex communicates via SMS message, the sender ID will be shown as “Vonex”.
If you're unsure?

There’s nothing you need to do, this change will automatically take effect from 1 July 2026. For more information about the SMS Sender ID Register, including the registers purpose and consumer protection goals, visit ACMA’s SMS Sender ID Register page.
